The term "Accessible" refers to ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant homes. These plans provide full compliance to the standard set forth in this provision, including ramps at doorways and wheel chair accessible areas throughout the house plan. But Accessible has come to be known under different terms. The most used is “Aging in Place.” This term takes into account many of the features that are required by ADA standards, but does not include all of them. Features that are included are; wide halls and doors in all areas, oversized bathrooms with curb-less showers, and spacious kitchens where ADA feature requirement can be adapted at a future date. Many plans can be adapted to include these features. Consider modifications if you find a house you love, but may not currently have all the requirements you need to make “aging in place” a reality.
